A peek at the life, times and thoughts of John during his two-year stint in Knoxville.

The weekend has arrived and much like last week there's a lot of good football today.

 

I'll get to watch some of it. Don't worry, I'll be working and reading too. Of particular interest to me is West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh. If the Mountaineers win they are heading for the BCS National Championship game and will have an actual chance to win the title they've been hollerin' about for years now.

 

The last time West Virginia University had a legitimate shot at a national championship they took a 7-0 lead against Florida in the Sugar Bowl before Florida scored 41 unanswered points for the dominating 41-7 win. Prior to that, West Virginia had been undefeated. That must have been the season they even beat the Miami Hurricanes.

 

And just who would West Virginia play in the BCS Championship? The current No. 1 is Missouri but they face Oklahoma tonight for the Big XII Championship. Oklahoma already owns a win over Missouri, so it's hardly an easy trip for them. They looked good against Kansas for the parts of the game I stayed awake during so it could be a good game. If Missouri loses it looks like Ohio State would slide into the BCS Championship game. This is impressive because they were there last year. Ohio State is known for its defense but I think West Virginia could probably move the ball all over them. Missouri I'm not so sure about.

 

I had two tests and a quiz this week. A was the grade for all three. At least two more tests next week. Sounds rough, but that's the nature of the beast here. I won't be losing any sleep over it. Well, maybe a little for extra studying.
